Yoni is a Sanskrit word that names the vulva, the vagina, the perineum, sometimes the uterus as an inner landscape. In practice, it points to an intimate area that deserves time, plain words and a great deal of care.
I am writing this because it is the part that is least often explained plainly, and it is precisely the part that most deserves precise words and a gentle tone.
A third register of contact
For many of us, that part of the body usually lives in two registers. One is medical: the table, the speculum, the cold light. The other is sexual: another person's desire, a rhythm we do not always fully choose.
A yoni massage proposes a third register. Someone touching there with the same quality of attention they would give a shoulder. No diagnosis and no hurry. At a slow, almost ritual pace, so the nervous system can learn to trust.
What happens in practice?
It can be external: contact with the vulva, the labia, the pubic bone, without going in. It can include the interior if we both agree, with lubrication, with words, and with the possibility of stopping in a second without explaining anything.
The pace is slow because the body needs time. There is no sequence to complete. Sometimes the work consists of resting a hand there and staying.
What may show up?
Pleasure may show up, soft or intense. Nothing may show up, a sleepy area that only registers pressure. A memory may show up, an image, an old anger. Laughter may show up, because the silence becomes too much. An orgasm you did not ask for may show up.
None of those things is the success of the session, and none is the failure. Eroticism is a welcome possibility, not a goal or a test. Pleasure is not a result to deliver.
Which is why it is agreed, not assumed
At Vanta, yoni is not part of the session by default. We talk about it in the first half hour and it only happens if we both agree. If we agree that day, it is added to the cost of that session; if not, the rest of the body is more than enough.
The body is not a menu. Many of us arrive with a history of being touched without being asked, and the way to care for that is simple: offer, do not slide.
You can say no in the conversation. You can say yes in the conversation and no ten minutes later, mid-sentence, with your hand. That does not ruin the session. That is the session.
